AFTE Store - Antazoline Hydrochloride vs. the Griess Test, Detection of Nitrites in Gunshot Residues

Gunshot residue patterns on cloth were examined for the presence of nitrites using a variation of the Griess test employing Marshall’s Reagent and two variations of a test employing a 1% w/v acidic solution of antazoline hydrochloride. The variation of the Griess test was found to be significantly more sensitive in detecting the presence, concentration, and spatial distribution of the nitrites in gunshot residue patterns.
