Although gunpowder was used by the early Chinese in fireworks for celebrations, it quickly found use in warfare due to it destructive powers. Greek fire is probably the earliest recorded use of an explosive for warfare purposes. This article discusses the ways a chemical analysis can be performed on explosive compounds.
