AFTE Store - Similarity Among Breech Face Marks Fired from Guns With Close Serial Numbers

There have been a lot of reports about the similarity of the marks of the bullets or cartridge cases fired from guns of which parts have been cut by the same tool consecutively. But there is still no clear solution to cope with this difficult problem. Recently, the excellent survey of this problem has appeared in the AFTE Journal. (1) Manufacturing marks on Smith & Wesson firing pins, (2) and the breach face tool marks of Raven 25 automatic pistols (3), were also reported. In the latter reports, the similarity of the tool marks in connection with the production method and the machine tools were shown in detail. I also reported with co-workers about the similarity of breach face marks of Cal. 25 Browning Baby and Raven P-25 automatic pistols in vernacular papers, (4), (5). In the former report, it was stated that the work is valid even now if it is well documented photographically. So this time, the brief results of these previously reported papers are shown and some discussions are added.
