AFTE Store - Discharge of a 9mm Luger Cartridge in a 7.62 x 25mm Tokarev TT 30-33 Pistol

A request was submitted to examine a 7.62 x 25mm Tokarev pistol, six unexpended 9mm Luger cartridges, and autopsy projectile fragments. The purpose of the examination was to determine if it was possible to discharge the 9mm Luger cartridges in the Tokarev pistol and, if possible, compare the submitted autopsy fragments to the submitted pistol. It was determined that the 9mm Luger cartridges could be discharged in the Tokarev pistol given certain conditions and that one of the recovered autopsy fragments could be identified as having been fired from the Tokarev pistol. It was also determined that valid comparison standards could be created using the correct 7.62 x 25mm ammunition, even though the fatal bullet was originated from a 9mm Luger cartridge.
