AFTE Store - The Russian PSM Pistol: A Unique Pistol and Unique Ammunition

Prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was not at all likely that a 5.45mm PSM pistol would be involved in shooting incidents in the United States and other countries outside the former Soviet Union. The disintegration of that political system in 1991 and the withdrawal of Russian forces from the former East Germany and Central Europe have changed that situation. As a consequence, firearms examiners outside of Russia stand to encounter this unique pistol and its equally unique ammunition in future casework. This article will serve to acquaint the reader with the pistol, its ammunition and their properties of forensic interest.
