AFTE Store - Quantofix® Nitrite Sheets as an Alternative to Marshall’s and Modified Griess Tests for Gunshot Residue Testing

Utilizing traditional methods such as the Marshall’s test and Modified Griess test for visualizing nitrites in gunshot residue
(GSR) testing can be a time-consuming undertaking. In addition, the transition to digital photography has made finding photo paper increasingly difficult, and the preparation of the testing papers and acidic solutions used in the tests is a lengthy process. Testing shows that Quantofix brand nitrite testing paper can serve as an alternative method for GSR testing. The papers are nitrite-specific and require no preparation before use. By eliminating the need for prepping reagents and desensitizing photo papers, a significant amount of time and effort can be saved. This research is a qualitative assessment of the Quantofix nitrite sheets when reacted with water and heat.
