3D Imaging of Modified Firearms Using X-ray Computed Topography

This paper present a novel application of XCT imaging for identifying characteristics of modified and converted firearms. The overall aim of this reported work is to provide law enforcement agencies with a non-destructive and safe method to identify modifications to firearms where such techniques have not been previously available. The secondary aim is to highlight the limits of capability of XCT for the evaluation of fine toolmarks associated with typical criminal modifications.
