A Study of Gunshot Sound Measurements

2010

Measurements of gunshot sounds were recorded under close to real conditions in order to define and measure the change of the sound intensity relative to the distance.  Testing was conducted in an open, outdoor shooting range, firing various types and caliber firearm, from selected distances relative to the recording source.  Both a conventional sound level meter (SLM) and a measurement microphone were used.  The peak amplitude of the gunshot was calculated in the accepted engineering units (Decibels or dB) of Sound Pressure Level (SPL)
