During the course of routine casework and IBIS correlations, potential subclass characteristics were observed on the breech face of Jimenez JA Nine pistols. The presence of subclass characteristics was confirmed through examination of multiple firearms, breech face casts, and test fired specimens. Subsequent research was conducted to determine the source and persistence of these marks. The various stages of manufacturing were directly observed and consecutively manufactured slides were obtained and evaluated. By providing insight into the manufacturing process of the JA Nine pistol, this presentation will alert examiner to the potential presence of subclass characteristics and assist them in the proper evaluation of these marks when encountered in casework.
