Several of the author’s colleagues have received casework containing an unexpanded hollow point bullet retrieved from a victim’s body showing no indication of striking an intermediate object. The objective of this study is to determine the effect of velocity on the level of expansion and penetration depth of hollow point bullets. Four different manufacturer brands were used: .40 S&W caliber Speer Gold Dot, Winchester Ranger, Federal Hydra-Shok, and Remington Golden Saber.
