Update on the AFTE Unpublished Research Database

2022

The Unpublished Research subcommittee was assembled with the long-term goal of collecting research and presentations that have yet to be published, and making a searchable database in the Member’s Only area of the AFTE website. This new database would supplement the AFTE Journal with information on preliminary research and generate ideas for future research. By collecting and making this information available, we hope this tool will help with sharing research topics in the forensic firearm and toolmark discipline, as well as encouraging collaboration between members and continuation of research topics.

The Committee has gathered materials to populate the database. Sources for unpublished research include: AFTE Technical Programs (Post 2005 presentations are available on Seminar DVD’s), the NFEA, CCI, AFTE BYOS, AFTE Posters, and information posted on the AFTE Forums. These AFTE member contributions together with entries from past AFTE Technical programs brings our current total number to approximately 1000 entries. But we still need your help! Please visit the database that is now live in the members area and give us your feedback. We would also appreciate any ideas for research projects and any unfinished research projects you might want to share with the membership. Thank you for your help and support!
