(1) A collection and cataloging of both cartridges and ammunition components utilized by the firearm examiner; may include both unfired and fired ammunition components. Also known as reference ammunition, fired standards, or known standards.
(2) Ammunition used by test ranges to evaluate test barrels, ranges, and other
velocity and pressure measuring equipment. May also be used as a control sample by which other characteristics are compared, such as accuracy, patterns, etc. Also known as reference ammunition.
