AFTE Store - .22LR Caliber Fired Cartridge Cases Used as Bullet Jackets

For many decades, a few individuals and companies have been making the jackets for .22 calibre rifle bullets by swaging .22 caliber fired cartridge cases. Although some AFTE members may already be aware of this, the manufacture of these bullets is recounted for the benefit of newer examiners. Bullets of this type are fascinating in that they still exhibit their oringinal headstamp and firing pin impression on the base from their previous life as a .22 cartridge case. From a forensic standpoint, this may have relevance depending on the circumstances of the case.
