Interest in polymer coated bullets has ebbed and flowed over the past several decades. However, recently there has been renewed interest in polymer coated bullets and it would therefore be beneficial for firearms examiners to understand the different classes of coatings and identify the specific polymers used in order to determine their possible manufacturer.
Determining the possible manufacturer of a bullet can aid firearms examiners in their selection of cartridges when test firing and microscopically comparing bullets in casework.
