AFTE Store - A Preliminary Look at Thermal Imaging of Firearms
A modern thermal imaging camera was capable of detecting residual elevated temperatures of recently discharged rifles and handguns out to at least one hour after discharge and in some cases longer. In addition, firearms that were in equilibrium with their environment were easily distinguished from firearms that had been taken from a different thermal environment and deposited in a new thermal environment, e.g., from a colder location to a warmer location or vice versa.
