AFTE Store - A Shortened M-16 Rifle

An unusual M-16 assault rifle, 5.56X45 mm (.223 REM) caliber, was seized from a suspect. The assault rifle was an M-16, model A1, which had been professionally shortened to an overall length of 57 cm by trimming some of its parts, especially the barrel and the butt-stock. This was done mainly to enable the concealment of this “subcarbine”. This report shows the alterations to the rifle’s parts and the resulting changes in its functionality.
