AFTE Store - A Shot In The Dark: A Procedure For The Photographic Documentation Of Firearm’s Muzzle Flash

A standard protocol and set of conditions is described and proposed for the photographic documentation of the visible light emitted from a firearm upon discharge. This method allows one to inter-compare the performance of ammunition fired at different times primarily for the purpose of law enforcement ammunition selection as it relates to nighttime and low light shooting situations. This method also allows one to evaluate witnesses’ statements as to having seen the flash from the discharge of a firearm in that the resultant photograph reasonably approximates the human visual experience during such discharges.
