AFTE Store - A Study of Cartridge Case Impressions on Bullets

A duplication of the work of Dr. Robert Levine and Michelle Kuehner in comparing the impression marks, mostly in Winchester ammunition, left on the respective bullet by the mouth of the cartridge case is presented. In addition, a trip to the Olin Corp-Winchester manufacturing plant was made in an effort to identify the source of the marks. Samples of cartridge cases were obtained at various steps in the process. An examination of these sample cartridge cases revealed the impression marks to be randomly produced and therefore individual in character.
