During examination of fired projectiles when no firearm has been submitted, it may serve beneficial to have a uniform classification system for helping to determine the type of firearms that may have fired the projectile. By measuring the rifling class characteristics of firearms and keeping the information handy and available, examiners can further assist the agencies that it services.
