Physical pattern evidence plays an important role in linking suspects to crime scenes and/or victims. This includes toolmarks, fracture surfaces, tears in fabric, paper or other materials, shoe and tire impressions and any other patterns suitable for establishing a common origin. this studydealt specifically with determining the legitimacy of examiningan comparing fracture surfaces to determineif the unique fracture patterns generated could be distinguished by qualified forensic examiners. The metal specimens were subjected to a pure tensile load to the point of failure. The results confirm the validity of conducting fracture specimens separated in tension.
