AFTE Store - Accidental Discharge of a Baikal IZH-18M-M Single Shot Shotgun

The internal safety of a Baikal single shot shotgun acted as a temporary sear allowing the shotgun to be cocked and fired by the process of closing the action on a live cartridge. The weapon’s trigger had become wedged into the trigger guard, holding the trigger to the rear. The manual safety was in the FIRE position and a live shotshell was loaded into the shotgun. The barrel locking and hammer safety mechanisms caused the hammer to be cocked then released as the action closed causing an unintentional discharge of the shotgun which resulted in the death of a juvenile bystander.
