AFTE Store - Air Gun Safety Designs

This is both a “State of the Art” and a historical review of air gun safeties and safety designs. The items have been arranged in a chronological order with reference to patents, patent dates, inventors, manufacturers and air gun production models. An effort has been made to locate and identify the earliest forms of air gun safeties. The various air gun types are defined. Because air guns reportedly are most frequently foundin the hands of youth, (as apparent in the manufacturers demographic surveys of owner/users of so called “adult air guns”) an emphasis is placed on automatic safeties. In the case of safeties other than the automatic type, only the representative makes and models frequently encountered are included.
