AFTE Store - An Examination of Consecutively Double-Broached Pistol Barrels

Subclass characteristics are markings that are unique to a subset of tools. They can be found in barrels that have been consecutively rifled by the same tool, such as a broach. Five consecutively double broached 9mm Luger caliber Ruger 9E barrels were compared for shared characteristics within bore casts and test-fired bullets. Some subclass potential was observed within the casts of the lands and grooves of the barrels, but each barrel produced unique and identifiable characteristics on fired bullets.
