Properly formulated handloads can provide the shooting enthusiast with excellent performance on both the rifle or pistol range and in hunting situations. Improperly formulated handloads can be a recipe for disaster. This case involves the catastrophic burst of a Browning Model 81L rifle chambered for the 7mm Remington Magnum cartridge. If the rifle had not burst, the calculated peak pressure achieved would have been on the order of 150,000psi to 160,000psi in a rifle design.
