AFTE Store - An Unusual Toolmark Comparison From a Hit and Run Case
A case report involving a toolmark identfication. In this case, a sliver or divot of rubber was sliced off a tire during the hit and run accident. The sliver was collected as evidence at the scene, and when a suspect vehicle was located, comparison was made to an area on one of the tires on the vehicle. Silicone rubber casting was attempted, but not effective. A direct comparison to the crime scene fragment was successful due to the application of magnesium ribbon smoke to the damaged area on the tire.
