AFTE Store - Armor Piercing Modifications of Handgun Ammunition

A procedure to successful modify commercially available handgun ammunition into armor piercing projectiles, capable of defeating Kevlar type body armor, has been developed by certain clandestine groups within the United States. Three separate contacts with modified ammunition of the same general kind has been reported from different areas of the country. The ammunition has been altered by inserting a steel core into the cavity of the jacketed hollow point bullet. Laboratory experimentation using such modified ammunition demonstrated the design’s ability to defeat several popular brands of Kevlar type body armor.
