Axe Blade Toolmark Identification

An axe blade was identified as having produced the toolmarks in damage to a door. The application of the blade at the time that the toolmarks were produced was determined and a specialized jig made to assist in reproducing the toolmarks as close as possible to the way that they were produced at the time of the offense. The types of toolmarks, tool action, and comparison techniques are discussed.
