AFTE Store - Bullet Diameter Measurements
Receiving a complete undeformed bullet for diameter determination is an ideal sistuation. One simply measures the diameter with a caliper to the nearest five hundredths of a millimeter and you are finished. Receiving a deformed bullet fragment is more difficult. This report will discuss two methods for determining its diameter, one using trignonmetery and algebra and the second adding an element of calculus with the aid of a computer graphics program and spreadsheet. For deformed bullets, no previous method of measurement was known to our firearms laboratory.
