AFTE Store - Casting and Cutting: Complementary Methods for Bolt Cutter Comparisons

A number of bolt cutter comparisons received at this laboratory highlighted the value of casting bolt cutter blades as a
primary source for comparison material. Test cuts are made into lead as a primary source; however, in certain circumstances
it has been found that the casts of the leading edge of the blades provide a clearer reproduction of individual marks used
for identification.
