AFTE Store - Changed Serial Number?

Author describes a .38 Colt Police Positive revolver with a “9” stamped on top of a “7” on the serial number. After examination of the “9” versus other 9’s in the serial number author surmises that the overstamping was done at the Colt plant during serialization. Includes photos of serial number.
