AFTE Store - Circular Manufacturing Marks on Speer Factory GDHP Ammunition

In January 2008 Fort Worth Police Officers were dispatched to a residence on an attempted suicide call. During the course of their investigation the officers were confronted by an armed individual, and became involved in a shooting incident. The firearms, cartridge magazines and ammunition in the possession of the police officers, as well as all other firearms evidence recovered from the shooting scene, were sent to the Fort Worth Police Crime Laboratory for examination. Examination of the police officers’ Speer 40 S&W Gold Dot Hollow Point (GDHP) ammunition revealed circular marks of unknown origin on the primers of many of the cartridges. Research determined that the circular marks were created by defects located on primer insert pins in one of Speer’s ammunition production lines.
