AFTE Store - Class Characteristics of Mossberg C-Lect-Choke Barrels with Factory Porting

The examination of shotgun slugs and wads or shotcups can occasionally provide information to the examiner as to the type of weapon used and, in rare cases, the specific identity of the weapon. In the examination of the Mossberg Model 385K 20 gauge shotgun, it was found that Winchester shotcups (wads) were marked by the choke as well as the muzzle ports. The marking was in the form of class characteristics imparted to the surface and edges of the shotcup. These class characteristics allowed the weapon to be eliminated as having possibly fired three shotcups removed from the victim.
