Bullets recovered from autopsy may be an infectious hazard to the custodian or examiner if retained blood and tissues are present. Various techniques to either cleanse or sterilize different bullet materials are evaluated with respect to their effects upon the quality of the rifling marks. Autoclaving or immersion in 70% ethanol are shown to be least detrimental.
