AFTE Store - Distance Determination Results When Utilizing the Same Make, Model and Barrel Length Firearms

In the field of Firearm Identification, it is standard procedure to utilize the suspect firearm and ammunition that was used in the crime when conducting distance determination tests. There may be occasion where the suspect firearm may not be available, or it is inoperable, and therefore a distance determination using standard procedures cannot be conducted. The research discussed in this paper sets out to determine if the same make, model and barrel length firearms will deposit gunshot residues similarly enough to allow for accurate bracketed distance determination conclusions when the suspect firearm is not available to the examiner.
