AFTE Store - Double Firing Pin Strike of the CZ Model 83 Pistol-Study of the Phenomenon
This report will introduce, investigate and study a Family Mark which we will call Double Firing Pin Strike (DFPS). This mark was found on most cartridge cases discharged from a CZ model 83 semi automatic pistol (made by Czechoslovakia), caliber 9 mm Short (380 Auto). The DFf’S toolmark is an additional toolmark produced by the firing pin after the primary firing pin strike. It is found in most of the cartridge case primers at @ 1-2 o’clock relative to the primary firing pin impression which itself is off center. The DFPS’s family characteristics are the same as the primary strike, round with a round base and with circular traces. This report describes the phenomenon in detail and suggests its root cause through analysis.
