AFTE Store - East German 7.62x39mm “Ubungsmunition”
The East German-manufactured practice ammunition, or Ubungsmunition, has several unique characteristics which are of forensic importance. The bullet is a steel jacket, nylon core bullet of nominal 62 grains weight. However, the ogive of this bullet is more like a round nose design rather than the typical Soviet – Warsaw Pact M43 FMJ ball projectile. The length of this practice bullet is much longer than a typical 7.62x39mm projectile. It also has an internal lead collar at the base of the bullet. Recognition of one or more of these chracteristics in a 30-31 caliber bullet could suggest that this type of cartridge is involved.
