Ejection pattern testing for use in shooting reconstruction has been employed for many years. Several methods are commonly used to demonstrate results of these tests, and many different criteria must be considered before conducting such tests. Some standard protocols are discussed, as well as the effects the firearm’s mechanism, pitch, rotation, and motion have on the final rest locations of fired cartridge casings.
