AFTE Store - Every Little Bit Helps: An Overview of Unpublished Research Towards Validating Forensic Ballistics

Recent scrutiny of the forensic comparison disciplines identified gaps in the scientific validation of current analysis methods and interpretation. This review focuses specifically on the gaps identified within forensic firearms identification and toolmark comparisons in Australia and New Zealand. It includes an overview of 22 selected unpublished research reports from Australia and identifies their potential to provide information to address the gaps identified within forensic firearms identification. The aim of this review is to highlight previously undisclosed research projects, which individually are insufficient for publication, but still offer valid material that could be used to inform best practice.
