This article discusses the catastrophic failure of an ArmaLite rifle, model AR 10A4 due to a bore obstruction caused by the use of an incorrect caliber of cartridge. The incorrect cartridge selection was attributed to the unrecognized location of the true caliber designation of the rifle.
