We as Firearms Examiners should be aware of the existence of the condition known as “false half cock position” when examining pistols involved in accidental shootings. This phenomena occurs when the leading edge of the half cock notch comes to rest on the tip of the sear instead of coming to rest in the half cock notch itself.
