AFTE Store - Fifty Caliber Cotton Box Recovery

While there have been several occasions where our laboratory was asked if we could test fire a .50 caliber firearm, only one of those times actually resulted in the test fire itself. Complicating the matter was the fact that we did not have a water tank and, instead, had to use a cotton recovery box. A method had to be developed to successfully fire a .50 caliber rifle into cotton. This was accomplished by downloading ammunition for the tests and some added preparation of the cotton box.
