This paper explores the scientific background and validity of firearm identification as applied during courtroom expert testimony. A mock courtroom examination is provided through which the fundamental principles of firearm identification are articulated. These include the application of numerical identification criteria and will be of great interest to all examiners, especially younger examiners or those in training.
