AFTE Store - Firearms Identification, Comparison Microscopes & the Spencer Lens Co.

This paper outlines the important milestones in the history of firearms identification and the evolution of the comparison microscope. Particular reference is made to the Spencer Lens Company of Buffalo, New York, as they were the first optical instrument manufacturer to build and sell comparison microscopes solely for firearms identification. The forensic equipment that Spencer produced in the 1930’s for firearms investigation is illustrated and discussed in the context of the history of firearms identification.
