AFTE Store - FN 1910/1922 7.65mm – Chamber Impressions on Cartridge Cases

This report will introduce and share with the Firearms Examiner a new set of class and individual characteristics found on cartridge cases discharged from a FN model 1910/22 pistol, caliber 7.65 mm. The class and individual characteristics are found on the forward section of the cartridge case rim. They are produced during the discharge phase when the cartridge case comes in contact with the shoulder of the pistol’s chamber. This set of class characteristics can assist the Firearms Examiner with identifying the type of firearm, when the evidence includes only fired cartridge cases (caliber 7.65 mm) with no firearm recovered. These marks can also be used for microscopic comparison examinations. These class and individual characteristics have not been previously documented and will be discussed in detail in this report.
