AFTE Store - Forensic Chemistry and Scientific Criminal Investigation (Originally published by Edward Arnold & Company of London, England in 1921)

The article starts by examining fouling left in the barrel after firing and how it changes (in chemistry, smell, color, etc) with time from immediately after firing to several weeks later. Several testing procedures are described. The article then moves on to marks and irregularities found in the barrel resulting from manufacturing processes and use of the weapon and different methods used to examine these markings. Different parts of the gun are discussed, as well as cartridges and their components. An indepth discussion of different marks found on bullets and how to best examine these marks, smiliar marks on slugs, and range of shot/distance tests follows. Finally case studies and examples are given for the various topics covered in the article.
