AFTE Store - GLOCK versus SMITH & WESSON MODEL SW40F: Comparison of Markings on Fired Cartridge Cases

Prior to the introduction of Smith & Wesson’s Sigma Series, Model SW40F, semi-automatic pistol, cartridge cases fired in Glock pistols were readily recognized by the rectangular firing pin impression and the striated shear marks above and below the impression. Smith & Wesson’s newest addition to the firearms market the SW40F, is very similar in design to the Glock. Cartridge cases fired in this Smith & Wesson pistol have firing pin impressions and shear marks very similar to those of the Glock. This article discusses other firearm produced markings that may allow an examiner to distinguish between cartridge cases fired in a Glock and a Smith & Wesson SW40F.
