AFTE Store - IBIS BrassTRAX Correlation Performance and Review Practices

Since the introduction of new capabilities within Ultra Electronics Forensic Technology Incorporated’s (Ultra-FT) BrassTRAX software and hardware over the past two years, a study was conducted to take a comprehensive look at how the system’s performance has changed and how users can use this to their advantage. This study was performed by generating correlations of 750 exhibits containing known matches (previously identified ‘NIBIN Leads’) in their correlation results and evaluating where all known matches fell within each of the sets of results that was returned by the system per exhibit. An evaluation of how rankings within each of the seven data sets (six different Regions of Interest (ROI) as well as the ‘Rank Sort’ (RS) feature) that were returned per exhibit was performed and the information gathered was used in a discussion of how NIBIN sites can provide more timely investigative leads for use in the field. This study showed that a NIBIN site could maintain a high level of accuracy and efficiency – with minimal personnel – by using the system’s RS feature to review correlation results on its own.
