With the introduction of new algorithms and functions in software version 3.0 of Ultra Electronics Forensic Technology Incorporated’s (Ultra-FT) BrassTRAX software, a study was conducted to take an in-depth look at how NIBIN sites could best incorporate both old and new functions into caseworking processes with the goal of increasing efficiency while
maintaining accuracy for NIBIN sites. The study was performed by generating correlations of 500 exhibits containing known matches (previously identified ‘NIBIN Leads’) in the correlation results. An evaluation of how rankings within the different Regions of Interest (ROI) were incorporated into the new ‘Rank Sort’ feature and how this new feature fits into
the overall thought process of how sites could best complete casework and provide timely investigative leads was also done.
