AFTE Store - Irregular Impressions on 9mm Luger Caliber Winchester Primers – Not Subclass Characteristics

Preliminary examination for the presences of subclass marks on new ammunition delivered to the New York City Police Department Firearms Analysis Section revealed unusual impressions found on some 9mm Luger caliber Winchester primers. (Figures 1 and 2) The impressions were similar in appearance and located on the center area of the primers. Although they are macroscopic, these consistent yet irregular impressions failed to meet the criteria for the AFTE definition of “Subclass Characteristics.”
