Three copper jacket fragments with a rolled cannelure having a total weight of 15.0 grains, eight lead fragments and a Sig model P228 (9mm) were submitted for examination. Upon examination, the fragments were consistent with .38/.357 caliber. The lead fragments were consistent with 2 shot in size. There were one Glaser cartridge among 14 cartridges recovered, but the Glaser contained 12 shot. Remington-Peters laboratory ammunition was used for test firing and when compared the three jacket fragments could not be identified or eliminated as having been fired in/thru the P228. Based on the above observations and my experience, there appeared to have been two separate firearms used, possibly a .38 Special/.357 Magnum and a shotgun.
